American Gothic

I can’t imagine what the people at the San Francisco Wax Museum were thinking when they came up with this idea. They had the Mona Lisa too, but I don’t seem to have a snapshot of that.

“It’s so hard to get it out of the plastic”

Here’s another appalling food product: Kraft Easy Cheese. It’s spray on cheese, and that is revolting. But the name is a worry too. I’m pretty sure Kraft does a lot of market research before they give any of their products a name. So, for this stuff to be called “Easy Cheese”, they must have found that there was a pretty large group of people who think ordinary cheese is just too darn difficult.

Fast Franks

Oscar Mayer have a new product called Fast Franks. Like Uncrustables this product seems to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist. Basically it’s a hot dog already in a bun, saving us the time-consuming step of placing the hot dog into a separately purchased and heated bun.

The really vexing question to me about “Fast Franks” is how they’ve managed to make this work from a technical standpoint. For me it takes about twice as long to warm a frank in a microwave as it does to microwave the bun. So how have the folks at Oscar Mayer engineered it so that both the frank and the bun get to the right temperature in thirty-five seconds? Apparently it’s all down to “proprietary dough technology”. But maybe the “Mechanically Separated Turkey” in the frank has something to do with it too.
